Pastor George Lubbers has been our pastor since February 2012. This is his first congregation as a senior pastor, having served for ten years as a youth pastor before coming to St. Thomas. He is an alumni Tyndale College and Seminary in Toronto with a Bachelor of Religious Education (BRE), Master of Divinity (M.Div.), and he is also a licenced carpenter graduating from Mohawk College in Hamilton in 1974. He is married to Cathy, and they have four children and five grandchildren. Both Cathy and Pastor George love to travel and have been on mission trips to the Dominican Republic to build churches, Guatemala to construct schools, and to the Philippines and Uganda to speak and teach in schools and churches where their daughter Karen has served as a missionary. Pastor George also loves golf, fishing, cooking and singing. He has a passion for young people and encouraging them to follow their dreams. He has a heart for worship and expressing that in a variety of ways; through drama, dance, arts and music.
Worship Coordinator Paul Elliott is our newest staff member. He is an alumnus of Trinity Western University in B.C. He toured nationally for the university admission’s department, providing music concerts to churches while promoting the educational programs. Subsequently, Paul enjoyed ministry experiences as associate pastor in Ottawa and the role of worship pastor in St. Thomas.
During the past eight years, Paul has ministered as Chapel Ministries Director at Fair Havens Bible Centre during the summer season and served churches musically in worship contracts during the other three seasons.
Paul is passionate about leading and encouraging fellow believers in corporate worship. With a background in writing and directing for live Christian theatre, he balances his time working on dramatic projects as well as assisting groups with drama clinics and readers workshops. Paul enjoys a good chat over coffee or steeped tea.
